The 64th season of our music club
Coming up to Christmas 2009
Our season began in September with a meeting for instrumentalists. Since then we have followed up with two evenings of Songs for the Stage (which includes operas, operettas and musicals) and two Singers' evenings (which means songs which were not written for the stage), as well as two instrumental evenings. We have another instrumental evening coming up next week and a songs evening the week after that. Then we have our Christmas celebration , and in January a Masterclass in Baroque and one in singing, both taken by highly qualified professionals.
We are delighted with the new members, both instrumental and vocal, that have joined us this year, and we have in place a mentoring scheme to help 'newbies' feel comfortable with us and keen to perform. I myself had the audacity to play the trombone a little while ago at an instrumental evening , which I had hardly touched for nearly 50 years. I was predictably terrible, but it was wonderful how supportive everyone was.
With us standards are not important. What is important is an honest enthusiasm , even a passion, for music. That carries us along.
We are always so pleased to welcome any new member, and that includes listeners. So if you are interested get in touch with me at 0208444 2669 or clewis2666@aol.com (your chairman!).
