About Multi-Agency Working

Introduction to Coram Family and the Camden (ChildrenA?s Fund) Primary Schools Project Multi-Disciplinary Team and Multi-Agency Working

Coram (the UKA?s oldest childrenA?s charity) has been working with the Camden ChildrenA?s Fund since 2002 as lead co-ordinator on the Camden (ChildrenA?s Fund) Primary Schools Project.  One specific aim of this project was to facilitate multi-agency working in several of the project schools.  This was done by setting up Multi-Disciplinary Teams in two of the schools within the project A? namely Brookfield & St DominicA?s RC Primary Schools.  The main aim of the Multi-Disciplinary Team was to enable the large number of outside professionals who come in to each school on a regular basis to work with children A? individually or as part of a group A? to come together and better plan & share the work they are carrying out with children, as well as providing alternative perspectives / solutions for other children whom are of concern to the school.

Both schools have found this way of working highly beneficial in:

a) Targeting children with multiple needs but who may not normally have been prioritised for support,
b) Building stronger relationships between the school team and outside professionals,
c) Creating / strengthening relationships between outside professionals,
d) Improving the knowledge and skill base of everyone involved and
e) Widening & improving the quality of the professional input in relation to childrenA?s needs.
